Bush breakfast at Rapids camp

A diamond in the rough.

The Rapids Camp at Sagana is a green serene environment set on the banks of River Tana about 95km away from the city. Despite its dry dusty surroundings, the environment drastically changes once you reach there. The first sights is a building with a thatched roof, a camping site seated in the middle of huge rocks and of course the main attraction being the Sagana River, which flows through the evergreen lands and disappears into the bushes.

The camp boasts of having hosted the first african Kayaking slalom in January this year. Rarely do you come across dedication as strong as the owner's. Having started from bare sorroundings, there are plans to make this place into a resort. A place to relax, fish and camp or stay in a lodge (in the future). Having sat down with him for a couple of minutes, you realize that you are with one of the The camp also supports local community initiatives (we are yet to tour this).

However, as golavish.com, a people in love with food, we give the number one activity at this campsite as, drum rolls please......................THE BUSH BREAKFAST.

Set in the open scenic surroundings, you get to enjoy fire cooked breakfast with a former hotel chef. The meal consists of self-caught fish (yes yes, you get to hunt your own meal!), roast meat, fruits among other mouth watering dishes. Yes, you heard it from here first.

Our day trip didn't do us much good. We had very little time to explore the area, very little time to enjoy the river, no time to fish and worst of all, no time to take moonlit walks next to the natural forest in sagana. If you plan to go to Rapids Camp, make sure you have at least 1 free evening and the next morning.
